Pistachio baiocchi: tasting and review
These days I've been thinking about baiocchi because they are a type of cookie that I really like, so I decided to go around to see if I would find the phantom pistachio baiocchi. Lately I have to confess that I really like this column; of the series: Dr. Scopelliti biologist and nutritionist try and taste yummy things! I combine my passion for content creation with my passion for desserts creating a devastating combo.
As soon as I saw them I pounced on them, commandeered a package and felt the pull of curiosity. As a nutritionist in Bologna and Milan, I have so many patients who have tried them and speak highly of them, and my desire to try them thus magnified even more (although reading online I found conflicting opinions).
Let's start with a clarification: can pistachio Baiocchi be eaten all the time?
Many of my patients ask me if they can always eat cookies, what I answer is always what does that mean? Every day of the week? At all hours? Between breaths? If the answer to these questions is yes those who know me well already know the answer: an emphatic no!
Every diet must have the right amount of sweetness but also keep intact its target purpose and the idea of promoting a healthy and balanced type of cooking and food preparation habits. So: within a lifestyle that you can define:
- Healthy;
- Active;
- Watch your dietary regimen.
It is absolutely not a crime to eat a pistachio baiocco once in a while. Finishing a box in five minutes, on the other hand, can be counterproductive to both your figure and your health. This is precisely why I always recommend moderation and common sense. I, for one, could never live without a little gluttony in my routine.
Pistachio baiocchi: pass or fail?
Let's get to the pivotal point: the trial by fire, the tasting! Not least because I assure you that I am really looking forward to it. Let's start then as always by unwrapping the package.
To my eye they look like normal baiocchi, nothing strange or abnormal, and this is probably good news since baiocchi are very good and as they always say: you can't change a winning team!
I can't resist and like when I was a kid and used to open Ringo's in half I am going to do it now to see the pistachio cream. To the eye I must say that it does not look very inviting. So I tried tasting it on its own and already in itself I noticed something that made my nose turn up: where is the pistachio flavor!
Of course, not that I was expecting a pistachio cream as good as the one I taste by the spoonful and yet...maybe I was hoping for it. The final test, however, still awaits me, and so it is that after reassembling the battered cookie I decide to eat it all in one bite; just as I would at breakfast or snack.
My bites confirmed what I already expected: the cookie is good because the baiocchi are good, but of the pistachio flavor there is only a hint of it, and for me this product fails. By this I do not mean not to eat them, that they are not good or to conflict with those who loved them!
But the hype behind this product seems excessive to me, that's all I'm saying. They are ordinary baiocchi that don't really taste like pistachios and that's why, in my very personal taste, they didn't pass the "pass or fail test."
